Responding to Reena’s exploration challenge #264 on the subject of time: https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2023/01/19/reenas-xploration-challenge-264/

They say that time has meaning only to a particular observer and I tend to agree with that observation. In the sixties, I took a girl on a first date to the West End of London to see the stage musical ‘Desert Song’ (music by Romberg, lyrics by Hammerstein). In discussions after the musical, I was informed that it was the most boring, interminable, two hours of her life, whereas I was enthralled and thought it had flown by far too quickly.

Time and tide wait for no one as it grinds relentlessly on. We strive for independence at the age of three but have to bow to the constant aspirations of our parents and teachers as they try to mold us into beings of their own thought processes. We struggle with authority through our teenage years as…

2043

2043 …..by Diana Coombes

writerravenclaw's avatarWriter Ravenclaw

Written for https://reinventionsreena.wordpress.com/2023/01/19/reenas-xploration-challenge-264/ and has a new year countdown theme.

‘Five, four, three, two, one, happy new year!’

It was 2043, and life was going to be different, the first virtual game launch. Different to virtual reality headsets, you had to download your personality on to a grid, via your fingerprint on a mobile device.

He wasn’t sure, turning forty this year, it was his daughter’s idea to give it a try. You loved playing video games, she said, when he told her about being worried. Mobile phones have always had an element to that, haven’t they.

She was right, mobile phones, algorithms, watching what you were buying and asking you to buy more. Although, you could always turn them off. Now, the government, or the leader supreme, made that illegal. It was a great place to live, no hunger, or money, for that matter.

You just went out to…

Phone Call

Phone call ….by Mich Navajas

michnavs's avatarmichnavs

Phone Call (A Poetic Flash Fiction)

sometimes a minute is what we need to change our lives for the better forever. sometimes, it’s just a second of receiving a phone call unexpectedly.

“hello,” was all i could say when i heard you speak, “how are you?” on the other end of the line.

i knew it was you (even without asking). your voice hasn’t changed a bit. your tone hasn’t changed either. and oh, your sarcasm, it’s still the same. it has never changed too.

we started with a simple “how’s life” to exchange stories of how’s life has been since you walked away (or maybe, you were right; i walked away). either way, though, the truth is we both lost each other.

how long has it been? so long.

what i thought would be a simple “hi, hello” one-minute phone call turned out to be 30 minutes, then an…

Time in a box

Time in a box ….by Elizabeth

Prompt:

Janus isthe god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, frames, and endings.He is usually depicted as having two faces. The month of January is named for Janus. Source: Wikipedia

Time in a box

If I could secure Time in a box
I would keep it there,
Dormant
Release it only when
I have time
I’m ready for it
I know myself
I wouldn't need to steal a few minutes here and there,
Day and night would bring me to light and surrender
If I could secure Time in a box
I would release it for
The long summer days
Sitting under the canopy of a coconut tree
Looking at the sea
I would release it for
The fragrant spring days
Breathing the scent of the flowers and my feet on the lawn I would release it for The cold winter days Enjoying the warm hearth…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge – Time did not march on

Time did not march on …. By Cheryl

rugby843's avatarThe Bag Lady

The professor pointed out a graph on the chart as he placed the ancient time map on the easel. He was amused to see his flock of students wrapt in attention. It was only a copy given to him in a secret exchange by a fellow teacher. Such documents were forbidden now. The students had never seen anything digital before and they were mesmerized. There were no more neon displays of anything, let alone a timepiece. The old professor explained this was a typical clock back in the twenty-first century. Further, he explained the graph description showing years, weeks and months along with a twenty-four hour day which could be seen on the neon display.

Reena’s Xploration Challenge # 264: Time

I have to live each moment for my time is now;

The time is half-past a monkey’s eye;

It’s time to eat, it’s time to sleep;

Time has no meaning, it is a human construct;

This is insane, I’ll never get there on time;

Excuse me, do you have the time? Thank you;

The shoot-out is high noon, it’s high-time you prepared to die;

“You were early the day you were born and you’ve been late ever since;”*

There’s so much to do, so little time…

How does time affect me?

I’m chronically late, always behind, constantly rushing, and endlessly running out.

I plan, I struggle, I strive, I fail…over and over and over again.

Then I quit. I give in and give up and refuse to battle anymore.

Life can unfold the way it was meant to: organically;

Until I decide to try…

A Beginning Arrives

A Beginning arrives ….by Aboli Mane

Aboli Mane's avatarA Writer In The Room

A beginning arrives
January knocks
open the door
Janus watches
the passage of time
a past leaves behind
a future beckons
we count backwards
on December 31
another year ends
the dates change
A beginning arrives

Modestly yours …. by J.M. Negi

J M Negi's avatarYours Satirically

Come to us for

Love, companionship and full equality,

Alleviating hate, animosity and frivolity,

Blessing humanity for zeal and inspiration,

Making us all epitome of perspiration.

Come to us with

Tranquility and chorus of symphony,

Warm Rays to take all our melancholy,

Separation from greed, jealous cacophony,

Disdain, Ostentation & utter monotony.

Come to us to

perpetual glee, honest prosperity,

Immaculate innocence, biggest morality,

Begin all good things & all known virtues,

Fetch that silent peace which one pursues.

THE TWO FACES OF NEW BEGINNINGS: Reena’s Xploration Challenge #264

The two faces of new beginnings ….by Ken Hume

kenhume31's avatarPoetry and Prose of Ken Hume

For this week’s Xploration Challenge & Moonwashed Weekly Prompt, Reena & Eugi have encouraged us to compose a poem on JANUS (God Of January) & the word: EVOLVE respectively. Below lies my contribution: 👇👇👇 Hope ye enjoy the read! 🙏🤞😁📖

THE TWO FACES OF NEW BEGINNINGS

Janus!
The 2 faces of January
God of endings
And new beginnings!
Gates and doorways
Transitions & passages
And ultimately… Time!
But can I trust him?
This God of duality?!
To help me start again
Help me evolve
Into the person I want to become.
Help me make the most of my time?
Which face is he going to show?
How’s he going to frame it?
And where will the doorway lead?
Down a dead end; cul de sac
Into my old self
Or through the gates of new; unexplored possibilities?!

Looking Back,

Musings of Mind …. by Kunjal Gupta

thelittleponderings's avatarMusingsofMind

Looking back,

A shadow follows,

Matching in tandem.

.

The past rings, mistakes swing

At the dawn of spring.

But the sun glows,

Its warmth clings.

.

Shallow nights arrive.

Water comes down,

Forming shallow pools.

But the Earth beckons

The music,

That comes with it.

This is a Quadrille ( A poem of exactly 44 words) written for Reena Xploration Challenge:

Janus isthe god of beginnings, gates, transitions, time, duality, doorways, passages, frames, and endings.He is usually depicted as having two faces. The month of January is named for Janus.

We counted backwards at midnight on 31st December 2022.

How should we go forward now? I need to know how many months, weeks, days I have to make my life or this world a better place to survive. I may not die at the end of this year, nor will the world end…
