Twenty Years Past (A Flash Fiction)

twenty years ago, the same time, the same place you robbed me of my dreams, and of my sanity. how dare you talk to me as if you were a saint. you were never close to being a saint, not at all.

i will never forget that day. you pushed me hard against the wall. i was shocked. it was out of your character, but then again not because it was out of your character doesn’t mean you are not capable of doing it.

you did, what most monsters do to their victims; taking control by force. and what could be a petite girl had to do with the power of a monstrous human being like you? nothing. there was nothing i can do. and i bet there was nothing you can do too to prevent your other self from doing what you had…

Carol’s take on RXC #277

Carol anne's avatarTherapy Bits

This week for her prompt Reena has given us quotes to work with. I chose this one.

“Everyone has that moment I think, the moment when something so momentous happens that it rips your very being into small pieces. And then you have to stop. For a long time, you gather your pieces. And it takes such a very long time, not to fit them back together, but to assemble them in a new way, not necessarily a better way. More, a way you can live with until you know for certain that this piece should go there, and that one there.”
Kathleen Glasgow, Girl in Pieces

A minute

A moment

When everything you thought you knew

Is shattered

Into a million little pieces

You gather up the shards

And try to mend your broken heart

You try and try

But to no avail

You heart and mind

Remain…

she watches as life passes
her by. silent, she stands, as
fragments of her own life lie
scattered before her eyes

her gaze intent,
though thoughts tired,
she needed to breathe~
before them, she gathered

she’d learnt a lesson
trying repeatedly, to
open and close doors
with the same key

she now knows,
she has to rein them in
one fragment at a time
and though it feels like
it will take forever, she
has at least conquered
one fear. her solitude
she now holds dear, for
it gives her the patience
needed to find the keys
one door at a time…

Reena says : I’ve picked up a few quotes from Goodreads to inspire you in this week.

How did I end up here?

How did I end up here? ….by sadje

Sadje/ Sadie's avatarKeep it alive

This week Reena invites us to consider a few quotes as our starting point. I chose this one;

“There was rarely an obvious branching point in a person’s life. People changed slowly, over time. You didn’t take one step, then find yourself in a completely new location. You first took a little step off the path to avoid some rocks. For a while, you walked alongside the path, but then you wandered out a little way to step on softer soil. Then you stopped paying attention as you drifted farther and farther away. Finally, you found yourself in the wrong city, wondering why the signs on the roadway hadn’t led you better.”
Brandon Sanderson, The Emperor’s Soul

From where we start to where we end

The journey in never a straight line, clearly defined

Every little thing that happens plays a part

Small missteps, detours and failed shortcuts

When the sage Ved-Vyasa (“the one who classified the Vedas”), decided to compose the story of the battle between the Kauravas and the Pandavas for the throne of Hastinapur, the longest-known epic poem of ancient India.

The great-grandfather Brahma, the creator of the universe, told Shree Ganesh (God of intellect and wisdom. Also as the god of beginnings, Shree Ganesh is honored at the start of rites and ceremonies in Hindu culture ) to write down the stanzas recited by Vyasa.

Ganapati agreed to write only if Vyasa would never pause in his recitation. Vyasa also imposed the condition that Ganapati must take time to understand what was said before writing because he will not be allowed to rewrite.

Ganapati agreed…

Grotesquely

Grotesquely …..by Aboli Mane

I dropped my heart
it split and broke
like a rose-tinted vase
strawberry-pink fluid
stained the marbled floor
it took a while to run out
fizzing bubbling gasping.

Glass buried within flesh
crimson tainted hands
I cleared up the mess
like I always do in resilience
I won't let these walls
recite this tragedy back to me.

picking up the pieces
there's one, here's another
how much can a heart take?
quite a lot it seems
how scarred are my hands?
quite a lot it seems
there I've fixed it again, grotesquely.

Wandering,

in the midst,

eclipsed amongst crowds,

feel safe among unknowns,

a point that revolves back,

an afternoon,

long forgotten,

in summer’s blisterik* heat,

momentous euphoria,

casting its wings,

on parched souls.

Emptiness,

stark naked,

in wholesome fields,

daylight captures,

moonlit night,

riding on,

fireflies wings,

solitary dreams,

held together,

in web of,

gossamer light.

What happened to better days? ….by Susan St. Pierre

Our challenge was to choose among an assortment of quotes for writing inspiration. I chose the one below.

Was she just too old to understand what progress looked like? Were…
