Diaries

The sleuth had never read a whole book in many years, and this was a series. But it held important clues to the investigation into the dead man’s life. He took time to read a little every day, till he started seeing shadows of his own self on the pages. Who was this abandoned child … Continue reading Diaries

Watch your thoughts…

I was taught that it takes minimum 40 days to internalize a new habit, or for a change to get rooted in the system. Maybe it is an approximation, but what happens when I need changes in different directions. Which one do I focus on first? Is there something like a debt consolidation program to … Continue reading Watch your thoughts…

Flash of a second

It is not a safe hour for a woman to be walking alone. Perhaps, she worked in graveyard shifts, and is used to the shadowy figures lurking outside. I am curious, but resist the temptation of talking. She is busy with her phone. I see her gesticulating wildly, asking me to get out. I do … Continue reading Flash of a second

The aged librarian’s advice

Björn Rudberg (brudberg)'s avatarBjörn Rudbergs writings

Treat every book with care,
between its pages rests:
a universe
a sacred crypt
a piece of you and everyone
a place to meet or be alone.

Enter every book with awe,
remember how
you used to bring to bed a flashlight
with your book.

Fear books that makes it hard to sleep,
filled with nightmares and excitements,
but fear even more
the boring books
that turn your brain to tapioca.

Bring books as company,
as friends and foes,
confide, confront your books
but don’t forget to put them down
and talk to the people that you meet.

Be book yourself, and fill your days
with sense, with syllables and sentences
with pages, paragraphs, be bold
and live (or dream),
your own adventures.

And when you cease to breathe
know well
that every book can not be read.

In other words, twaddle

She looked out of the window with empty eyes, and wished she did not have to be here. They were family, but talked of inane things she had no interest in, day and day out. The terrifying fact was that the incessant twaddle was draining her. The sameness of the mind-sets and the shallowness of … Continue reading In other words, twaddle
