Culture gaps
The tragic accident had ended two young lives. Worse than that, the old mother was left with a six-year old grandchild, and no breadwinner in the family. I referred them to a NGO which could help. Both returned home in a devastated state. “How could you do that to us? We cannot be in a … Continue reading Culture gaps
Shhhh…

“No one can know, Tom. I’m afraid of what will happen!”
“Don’t you think I know that, Sherry?”
Both quietly uncomfortable carrying their heavy load. The sweat on their brow evident from the efforts of hauling this load to the pier.
Pausing briefly, they looked at each other.
“Are you ready, Sherry?”
“Yeah, let’s do this, Tom.”
They watched as the suitcase dropped in the water. Bubbles immediately appeared after it plunged into the water. The bricks helped to force it further down.
“I feel like I just lost my best friend, Tom.”
“Well, yeah, because you just did, Sherry!”

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 60

Anne sat down before her television set.
“The world is shaking everyone! Many women have begun shedding light on the past wrong deeds of many men who had silenced them for long.” cried a news reporter standing in front of a bustling crowd of angry women holding placards and shouting slogans.
“The #MeToo movement has taken by a storm. It is spreading like a wildfire engulfing all wrong doers in it’s flames.” the reporter carried on.
“All? Really?” Anne talked to herself.
“Many, maybe most but not all….” Anne continued talking to herself as she shed a tiny pearl of a tear down her cheek remembering how she too had suffered.
The time when the physician had groped her in the name of medical examination, the time when her older cousin had touched her inappropriately making her gut…

“I’ve always found comfort in sharing with friends than family. I could never imagine my brother could be so mean to me.” Julia had been wailing for the last ten minutes. “I agree, Julia. Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 60 – The Girl.
Michael’s take ….

The girl woke up to the terrible realization she was late.
Yes, she and her boyfriend had been busy, she’d in secret gone against all she was taught and now there looked like unforeseen consequences to be paid.
She lived in a small town where everyone’s business was everyone’s business, and soon word spread she had been seen at the hospital. There was no way to hide such a thing as a teenage pregnancy, and pretty soon she confessed to her parents who horrified their good name would be besmirched quickly took steps to remove the problem.
The girl was rushed to confession to purge her soul of the sin, and then arrangements were made for her to spend the time of her being with child in a place far from their home.
The girl was sent away, and for a time she was never spoken of. When the time…

That which is unspoken becomes unspeakable – Adrienne Rich
The rules remain the same. The format can be prose, poetry, a combination of both, a memory, anecdote, review of a book you read, a photograph or work of art or just a fave rant. I look forward to meet all thoughts.
It was never spoke about, not in so many words, and never aloud. Truth was, body language was enough to scorn her for the rest of her life. She never got away, not like I did. Never had a sweetheart because when she was at the age to find one, Dad got sick and she stayed home to nurse him.
He never spoke to her unless to ask for something and then he spoke more to the air than her.

Nightmares
Cass was a nightmare in white silk and pearls. She wondered why Cass couldn’t wear something else to office. She had never done any harm to me. But seeing her took me down memory lane – religious heads dressed in white committing heinous crimes, the female lawyer in a white shirt and tie, who informed … Continue reading Nightmares
Haunted
The honcho from Indian Police Service was on his official tour, and was allocated this guest house to stay. It brought back a flood of childhood memories. He had left this village, decades ago. In childhood, he had often wondered if somebody lived in that house. The house was barely visible in spring and summer, … Continue reading Haunted
