Ice between us

“There you go – messing it up again. Why can’t you ever get things done right?” Martha’s shrill voice pierces my soul. I let my imagination go astray – a life without being blamed for every inconsequential act or mishap, a life with total freedom of doing things my way. The heat of a mismatched … Continue reading Ice between us

Repost: Ghazal

A ghazal in English, which comes closest to the Urdu form —- by arevivedwriter

This is a re-post of a ghazal that I wrote a couple of years ago. I am sharing with DVerse for this month’s poetry form.

“Call Me Hagar”

I decided to write another ghazal today. I normally wouldn’t post twice in one day but was very happy with how this turned out! It was inspired by Agha Shahid Ali’s poem “Tonight”. I am not feeling this way currently but am very familiar with the struggles described in the following poem.

I feel alone, connection’s far tonight,

I see no smiling star tonight.

Even the moon has forgotten its light.

Shrouded, it makes the sky dark as tar tonight.

My mind sees a battlefield near:

What emotions will I need to spar tonight?

Depression, restlessness, fear, anxiety?

What demons come to wound and scar tonight?

Yet hope alone, even now, can fight

The darkness; complete despair I’ll bar tonight.

And…

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #88

Welcome to Week 88! “Two Fat Majors” as the Tombola/Raffle/Bingo/Housie game host would announce when number 88 had to be called out…. Numbers with repeating digits give me an eerie feel, and especially, the number 8 has a peculiar shape. It is like going round and about, to reach the same place again. I came … Continue reading Reena’s Exploration Challenge #88

Vision

I got a glimpse of life or what it could be -I spent the rest of my life visualizing guarded boundaries of the possible   https://scvincent.com/2019/05/23/thursday-photo-prompt-transition-writephoto/

Estrangement

I cannot help but stop and look at this inexplicable estrangement It is mysterious, It is cryptic, however…. Is it ambivalence? however hard I try I will always be lonesome and blame others for my loneliness How happy is the woolly ambivalence! Does the ambivalence make you shiver? Does it? https://mindlovemiserysmenagerie.wordpress.com/2019/05/23/tale-weaver-224-estrangement-may-23rd/

You

“You left us alone when we needed you the most. Being called a swindler’s family is not an easy label to live with.” Her eyes were brimming with tears, as she spoke. “It was a frame-up.” “Why couldn’t you defend yourself?” “To protect someone else – someone you care about more than me.” https://girlieontheedge1.wordpress.com/2019/05/22/its-six-sentence-story-thursday-link-up-56/
