Note to self

“The gate will open on 28th May, and the spirits of your ancestors will step out. We need to be here to welcome them, beg forgiveness for our slip-ups, and ask for solutions to ongoing problems.” "You’ve been coming here on 28th May for a decade now. They never stepped out.” The son is super … Continue reading Note to self

Grant a voice ….by Aishwarya

P.C :- Alka Jha

I wasn’t a solitudinarian,

Always up and about,

Meeting people, visiting places,

Up and about,

Now, I have been carved,

A mythical creature’s design,

A design they deemed desirable.

I wasn’t a solitudinarian,

I am on the lookout, now,

Of a person to talk to,

While, they just stand in awe of my uncommon self,

I try to belong,

I try to speak,

I try to wave,

Amongst them, yet aloof,

Standing in the Sun, all day,

Isolated,

Burns me inside out,

Burnout,

Grant a voice, I want to talk.

Isolation

You always knew it. Didn’t you? I was made in a different mould. I couldn’t twist and turn myself to fit into the social moulds of your expectations. What forced your hand to get tough with me, and spew venom? Whose expectations were you living up to, when you criticised every act of mine. You … Continue reading Isolation

Pandora’s Jar: Women in the Greek Myths by Natalie Haynes

Jo's avatarJo's Book Blog

The Greek myths are among the world’s most important cultural building blocks and they have been retold many times, but rarely do they focus on the remarkable women at the heart of these ancient stories.

Stories of gods and monsters are the mainstay of epic poetry and Greek tragedy, from Homer to Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, from the Trojan War to Jason and the Argonauts. And still, today, a wealth of novels, plays and films draw their inspiration from stories first told almost three thousand years ago. But modern tellers of Greek myth have usually been men, and have routinely shown little interest in telling women’s stories. And when they do, those women are often painted as monstrous, vengeful or just plain evil. But Pandora – the first woman, who according to legend unloosed chaos upon the world – was not a villain, and even Medea and Phaedra have more…

PROMPT #184

A word prompt this week…

BURNOUT

There is no restriction on length of the piece. There is no last date either, unless you wish to be featured in the Weekly Wrap.

Too much seclusion and not enough to keep me occupied
Can also cause burnout
Too much work and not enough time to relax
Can also cause burnout
If there is no balance in lifestyle, we suffer
Too much of one thing or the other can exhaust us
Idealistic conditions are never on life’s menu
Create your own harmony and balance

De-sensitised

Photo by Connor Lucock on Pexels.com Spring arrived with mud and a torrent of bad news. “Wash the mud off thoroughly with soap, and spray a sanitiser after that.” “I love the smell of wet earth.” “You need to do it to retain the sense of smell.” I dreamt of trees laden with a spiky … Continue reading De-sensitised

Paradise Lost

Photo by Dimitris Mourousiadis on Pexels.com I was woken and shaken up by the novel Atlas Shrugged at one point of time, and then relegated it to the basement of consciousness  - as unattainable idealism. I don’t know why the smell of yellowing pages wafted back into memory, with the news of Covid vaccine patent … Continue reading Paradise Lost
