Free thinking is not something we encourage here

We would like very much for you to follow our directions

It’s not that we are holding your strings in our hands

It’s just that acting on your impulses is not safe for you

Just surrender your will to us and we’ll look after you

We will make sure the life you live is free of inspiration

Devoid of highs and lows

Just a comfortable life of dull monotony

That will keep you cocooned in a false sense of security

You are not puppets, just biddable citizens

The Lone Star

My feet, with no experience of being shackled in chains, feel heavy - they carry the weight of centuries which obstructed free movement of souls, born in bodies considered inferior by those who had no other means to prove their superiority. I’ve moved through labyrinthine corridors of time in search of respect, and learnt that … Continue reading The Lone Star

Generation gap

“I don’t see the relevance of this outdated machine being placed here.” “It marks the beginning of an era to make villagers independent.” “Then, it belongs in a museum.” “I value my personal bond with the hands that operated this. It is an object of worship for me.” “I guess, your mindset too, is a … Continue reading Generation gap

Encore

I recall a video by Sara Jacobovici, a music therapist. A child starts mimicking her body movements in response to music. She claims it as the moment when a connection is built, and knowing that the therapy can now move forward. I guess it applies to so many situations - in performing arts, writing or … Continue reading Encore

Spirit of Giving

I love the surprise you are going to spring on me. And I won’t tell you that I already know it. I’ve tracked your movement across the globe - your academic achievements, jobs, international assignments.  I wanted to say I’m so proud of you. But something stopped me. I did not want to puncture the … Continue reading Spirit of Giving
