Unconditional

Entering college was such a liberating moment. His childhood had not been smooth. His father was an army officer, known for his love of discipline. It reflected in the manner he treated his children. They were spanked for the slightest breach of discipline. Their mother watched them with helpless sympathy. Then, dawned the day, that … Continue reading Unconditional

Hollows

My vertical presence on this planet does not absolve me of guilt of bowing down to power of spreading myself too thin resting on unearned laurels to expand the dimensions of undeserved success.   You find it distasteful the compromises that I make to extend a hollow span to ambitious eternity. You would rather revel … Continue reading Hollows

Throwing Poems

kim881's avatarwriting in north norfolk

Poems
are grenades:
we remove the pen,
throw them into the world,
wait for them to detonate,
ducking  critical shards,
burning with awe
at the impact
and  heat
of the words.

My response to Poets United Midweek Motif: Weapon and linked to dVerse Poets Pub Open Link Night.

For our motif today, Sumana has chosen ‘weapon’.  She says that weapons are varied; in fact, anything can be turned into a weapon if the user wills – one can find a weapon or be a weapon. She has given us some interesting examples of poems about weapons: ‘The Furious Gun’ by Thomas Wyatt; ‘Dream Deferred ‘ by Langston Hughes; and  ‘Incident’ by Countee Cullen. All we have to do is write a new poem.

Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 22

Welcome to Week 22! There is something about the number 22 that makes me uneasy. I come across it frequently. I read somewhere that we should pay attention when numbers repeatedly appear in pairs. It is a message from the universe. I am writing this piece at the end of a rather difficult day, where … Continue reading Reena’s Exploration Challenge #Week 22

Revealing

The Pharaoh ripped off the bandages, and walked free after centuries. This had been his favorite path for a morning walk, and at first sight, it appeared that not much had changed. He wondered why his footsteps created a trail of light. Perhaps, it had something to do with his return from hibernation. He was … Continue reading Revealing

Gist of Conflict

All conflict, manipulation and business in the world stems from these three lines. A. I am not responsible for your destiny.   B. I trusted you to take care of my interest   C. Why did you ever push that button? I will show you a better way to live?     Reena's Exploration … Continue reading Gist of Conflict

Perspectives shape reality, and we write our own destiny. It is perhaps a hackneyed theme that I use so often in my speaking and writing.

But, a writer writes the destiny of its characters.

DIFFERENT EYES, DIFFERENT LEARNINGS

By Neel Anil Panicker

It’s not done; its plain bad, it’s downright cruel, it’s as if you, a lamb, has been by deceit, led into a dark desolate forest and then left to the mercy of the beasts, the biggest beast of them all, the lion itself, the king of the jungle, making mince meat of you, ripping asunder your delicate heart, its ferocious teeth gnawing at your vitals, wrenching out every shuddering gasp…
