The bank executive thought his clever manipulation of financial reports would stay hidden. He also believed that his false disclosures would stay in the shadows of spreadsheets.
For months, he shifted numbers like a magician, conjuring profits out of thin air and quietly sold the company shares he held before the scandal brought about a market crash.
But when every channel blared the news, and he received legal notices for clawback, his exclamations of “Holy Fish!” could not soften the blow.
Shareholders raged, regulators sharpened their knives, and the employees who were victims of his mental abuse quietly celebrated.
The man who once balanced fortunes found himself balancing excuses, none of which held weight.

An excellent Six. Well done, Reena!

It’s a tale as old as time, I think and you gave it in an excellent six sentences.

Glad he got caught, people work hard, and shouldn’t have someone take it from them.

The mindset that they can get away with everything is the root cause. Success in the initial stages of the journey validated them.

I read your article for the first time today. I saw how a great idea is explained to everyone in a brilliant way. You described it very well. 👏

Nice description of one shifting from balancing fortunes to balancing flimsy excuses.

Thank you, Frank! In the current scenario, ethics is more about not being caught. If it happens, they struggle for sometime to save face, then develop a thick skin and present an uncaring attitude to the world.

surely is tough to feel sympathy for one who not only steals, but would cover it up, the better to further profit
all to common in the current state of… wait, no.
human nature is pretty well set in it’s ways… funny how the improvements in behavior (in many cultures over time) seem focused on the good resisting the bad not on eliminating the bad
