Future

when crayons run out of color
but the mind is fertile
I draw a rough sketch
to be repainted

when I return
as an architect
to rebuild
this much-loved place

my bubble bursting with joy
My gran will welcome me
into her monochrome home
ask for a fresh coat of paint

  1. This piece is wonderfully tender and imaginative. The way you blend childhood imagery, creativity, and the warmth of a grandparent’s love creates a soft, nostalgic glow. The metaphor of returning “as an architect” to rebuild a beloved place is especially beautiful — it speaks to growth, healing, and the enduring bonds that shape us. A truly lovely, heartfelt poem.
