They had a closed mind, those blokes
never let me complete when I spoke
Yet, they attracted people like flies
They were the hub with many spokes
I often wondered what made them tick
they never let another perspective stick
They wore Teflon, they were the Gods
They presented faces, serene and calm
healed broken hearts with words like balm
Narcissist streaks well-concealed
They doled out mercy like kings give alms
Nobody knew why they cut off ties
One of them was in the eye of a storm
When others opined – they were not at ease
they feared a rebuff of their norms
They wore Teflon, they were the Gods
the coffin showed a fractured face
she was not comfy in her space
wanting release from a life structured
she fell victim to an unspoken menace
I often wonder what courage it takes
To not raise, but maintain the stakes
They wore Teflon, they were the Gods

Reena this describes the bully’s tactics and the “queen bee” response to the lesser creatures. The last verse is hard to read but very powerful!!

Reena, to me it feels like the whole poem spins around that sharp image of untouchable perfection hiding quiet decay… Excellent!

Strong write Reena. 👏
This line – “Narcissist streaks well-concealed” – resonated particularly with me. I pretty good at spotting them these days but occasionally one slips through and I have to kick myself for falling for it again!

They have a way of re-trapping victims with charm, if someone escapes. Then the same cycle starts all over again.

This is a powerful indictment of what too many humans face in their relationships. (K)

A well thought out poem. Sadly many women, and some men, do not have a choice in staying with their partners.
