I was asked to stay out –
the attic contained spirits that destroy peace
they were best left locked in there
The question I failed to ask
-Whose peace would it destroy?
-But I did my best
to be a guardian of peace
“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.” — Anaïs Nin
I ventured to clean the attic
and found a gemstone there
It came with a warning
swallowing it can cause death
it cuts your insides
like no blade ever can
but I felt so incomplete
without internalising its glow
I did swallow…

The past, when painful, is best left behind or up in the attic .. not always possible. I know for a fact. Your poem packs a punch and is beautifully composed.

And yet, so irresistible. Finding your true self is one of those.

Some things hidden can be very desirable… those are sometimes also the most dangerous.

Those are the dichotomies of living.

I would never go rummaging in attics, Reena, not knowing what I will find. Thankfully, our attic is empty except for a thick layer of insulation.

Good to have that insulation 😃 and empty attics are an achievement.
