I’ll let you in.
Don’t fold your wings tight
or hide beneath umbrella leaves,
or search for crevices in bark
-you are safe beneath this roof.
I need you to feel strong in vulnerability.
I’m not as pretty or frail as you,
nor am I a muse for artists
who chase fleeting grace.
But I know storms.
I’ve watched skies bruise and break,
felt silence press against glass
like your trembling wings.
Stay. Let the rain blur the world outside.
Let your stillness speak to the ache
I carry in places no one paints.
You, delicate as memory,
and I,
weathered as longing
we are not so different when the thunder rolls.

A generous act to save any life when a storm brews. 💕

This is a beautifully tender and evocative piece. The imagery is rich and immersive—the juxtaposition of fragility and resilience resonates deeply. I love how vulnerability is portrayed as strength, and how the speaker’s empathy bridges the gap between two seemingly different beings. The rhythm and flow carry both quiet intimacy and emotional weight, making the reader feel the storm inside and outside. A truly heartfelt and poignant work.

A beautiful poem, and butterflies have a special meaning. I like to think it is a loved one watching over us.
