Betrayal

She felt the chill in her bones, as the electricity in the air flashed like blue lights on a dark sky. Cottony clouds had vanished like abandoned puppies after the unexpected thunderstorm.

As they leapt over the fence with the agility of tigers, the shadow froze in a moment of perilous stillness.

It was the familiar ringtone that gave him away – the Police Commissioner.

  1. I love that rhetorical device, i.e. inadvertent ringing of the ubiquitous cell phone, have used it as well in stories… there is something ’21st C isn’t all that perfect’ about it. For all of the might capabilities of the solid state world, one wrong number (or in this case, right number/wrong time) and it all comes undone.
