The lamp stays aflame, waiting for the genie
Come claim its freedom
The lamp is tired,
watching the genie frolic around
-multiple masters, numerous assignments
-lot of adventure, a grateful clientele.
I’ve borne you for 5000 years
attracted innocents to accidental rubs
becoming Masters of their Fate
While I remain sedate, cold or hot
Miracle I am, Angel you are not
I respect the bonds, I give you a choice
Claim your freedom, give me back my life
or be my slave and surrender yourself
to the rains and oceans
guided transmutations
till we find our respective homes
in isolation

Interesting and intriguing take, Reena. Great writing.

What a great use of the prompt, from a lamp’s perspective. Yes, genies have all the fun. Well done!

I’ve always thought genies got a really rotten deal. You have to wonder what they did to get trapped in those lamps to begin with!

True. But no one has touched upon that. Subject for a novel?

Maybe. It would be interesting to study the origins of the myth.

Really interesting; questioning the relationship between a genie and his lamp and even more interesting to imagine them parting ways after 5000 years.
Good writing

I really liked this, and could really imagine how it “attracted innocents to accidental rubs” – and powerful ending.

Sim Salabim! I’ve always loved genies, and the whole twisted wish logic, etc. I was hooked instantly.

Maybe he silently maneuvers and manipulates the masters. Remember “I Dream of Jeannie.” We had a Hindi version of it in India too.

A flaming lamp and a magical opening is a great hook, Reena; I’m a sucker for a fairy tale. I feel sorry for the tired lamp – the genie does have all the fun.
