Fiercely Private

The laptop screen flickered as the lights went out.

She turned back to open the windows, and froze in her tracks as the reflection in the glass was not her own.

Words appeared on the device screen unaided by text or voice input – “You left the attic door open and invited me in, so you are not alone, you will never be alone.”

She leapt in the dark to get the diary she had pulled out from the attic, but the intense heat of burning words forced her to let it go.

A voice from the screen rang through the room, “My stories need to be deleted forever from the face of the earth and human memory … no one is allowed to walk through my existence.”

She sensed that the invasion of privacy rattled a spirit, but she did not know how to put it back in the attic and shut the door.
