Who were those characters with dated looks and an outdated fashion sense? Their feet with toes turned backwards tell me who they are. I politely request that they return to their graves.
I wake up in a different era. Mornings are challenging with many tasks to execute before 9 am. It’s not the time to get philosophical. I look at my toes pointed north and get on with my routine. This is real life.
I opened the messaging app with my first sip of coffee and saw a message from my cousin. She has been blessed with a granddaughter who bears an uncanny resemblance to our grandmother. They have decided to give her a name with some letters borrowed from Grandma’s name.
I am the axis
earth spins around a fireball
time moves in circles
digital clocks sneer
at moon-faced tellers of time
repeat the same hours

Reena, I love how this haibun reflects on life’s cycles. The closing haiku captures the contrast between past and present perfectly.

Time moves on whether we’re dreaming or awake, but it does circle. Thank you for writing to the prompt.
