Let it sleep

It watched the world with knowing gaze,
Through centuries of change,
From kingdoms rise to empires fall,
In cycles, vast and strange.

now it sees a world transformed,
By gadgets, screens, and speed,
A pace too swift for ancient minds,
A world it cannot lead.

But now it feels a deep despair,
A sadness in its core,
For though it’s wise and strong and grand,
It can’t keep up anymore.

So let it sleep in fossil form,
A relic of the past,
A symbol of a time long gone,
When dragons’ reign was vast.

  1. If we let a dragon sleep, there’s always the chance it will wake up one day soon and we will see it, Reena. I love how your poem emphasises the ancientness of dragons, that they’ve been around and seen ‘centuries of change’. I can’t imagine how a dragon would feel about ‘gadgets, screens, and speed’.  I feel a bit like that dragon.
