I give in to your whims;
break a promise to me.
For being just myself…
I walk bowed down
with the burden
of a contaminated identity
it cracks up any moment
the world thinks
I’m fake
inconsistent.
They’re right
the only truth
Is authenticity
I give in to your whims;
break a promise to me.
For being just myself…
I walk bowed down
with the burden
of a contaminated identity
it cracks up any moment
the world thinks
I’m fake
inconsistent.
They’re right
the only truth
Is authenticity
A well expressed poem of realisation.

Reena, the raw vulnerability in this poem really resonates with me—it beautifully captures the struggle for authenticity amidst external pressures and judgments.

I’ve always believed, we can try….we can put on a masquerade for a period of time….but we always do return to our true selves.

You exude authenticity, Reena so I can only assume this is speculative fiction…

Thanks for the compliment, Frewin! Poetry isn’t all about yourself. It reflects a journey and interactions with others.

Thankfully we can start our day, our week, our life over at any moment. I am who I decide to be this moment.🙏🏻❤️

There are times when we keep breaking promises and supress our authentic selves just to satisfy the whims of someone who clearly doesn’t deserve it. I can relate to that. Great take on the prompt, my dear 😁
