“Do you think someone allegedly involved in a fraud deserves a bonus and stock options?” her quivering voice echoes in the closed chamber.
The question is direct, hard-hitting, and almost accusing.
The honcho turns around in his chair, provocatively taps the cigar on the ashtray, and watches the dropped ash cool and shrink.
“I know how you hate the person and his shady acts and would love to see him being penalised”, he drawls slowly as he looks at the enraged woman’s eyes.
“But what you lack is a long-term perspective. The clawback will hurt more than withholding of benefits.”

If Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was right and the moral arc of the universe, though long, bends toward justice, eventually he will reap what he has sown.

I say do both. Slap on the wrist never gets their attention.

There are so many layers of clawbacks – they take away future benefits like vested ESOPs first, which is hardly a punishment.

Good one, Reena – I know all about fraud since my debit card was filched from my bag last week! (true but boring)

excellent Six highlighting the crash of 2010 (or 2009 depending on the bank)… incentivizing criminality in the mortgage ending sector (at least over here).
no harm to the perpetrators, of course, that’s why Baal invented tax payers
thought-provoking as always

The last I remember is the Wells Fargo case of issuing fake credit cards.

Good point: the pleasure of seeing someone punished is not worth the cost.
