Not-so-smart Living

Apps have taken over devices.

The biggest invasion happened when the mobile phone made the pager, camera and tablets redundant.

My Google Home Assistant and Alexa lie idle because I couldn’t find a gap for them to fill.

I no longer need a Kindle because the app enables reading on any device.

The smart TV keeps my husband occupied, as I’ve never been an avid TV watcher.

We did have a video doorbell in the house we previously lived in, but we now use it only for a few weeks off and on.

WHAT I NEED

Spectacle detector

I keep forgetting where I left the most essential item. I wish it had a ringer indicating the location after dialling a number.

Translator

I would like to translate my blogs and videos into local languages to find a wider audience. I use Google  Input Tools, but editing takes time.

Pup Control

A detector and remote control for my pup will also help, as she loves hiding in obscure places, and  I cannot match her agility when she jumps to greet a weary visitor.

Remote switches

I’d love to switch off the lights and fans in other rooms or control the microwave from other rooms. Bluetooth devices do exist, but I don’t own any of them.

AI to translate animal language.

I wish  I could converse with my dogs better than I do now.

  1. I think we are a long way off from understanding animal language but there are plenty of devices out there with smart tags that can help you to find things. I think there are things that will feed your fish, or cat or dog, and there are also robots that you could program to find your dog. I am going to get some of those devices that will turn my lights on and off, as that seems like a nice convenience.
