Bonding over Food

I  could have turned the knife on someone who left this mess in the kitchen.

But then the lockdown happened, and I applied my creativity in the same space. I proudly posted pictures of my culinary masterpieces on social media to counter my mother’s vicious jibes that I am a good-for-nothing in the domestic sphere.

Some people commented that I’ve made remarkable progress in a short time.  I only transitioned from a Sunday cook to a full-time chef.  Personal branding matters in every sphere, even the seemingly humdrum routines.

  1. Well said, Reena! Apparently, eating on your own is not the same experience and good memories of particular food are only cemented by association by eating it with others…

    1. LOL! I remember my Mom warning my husband to avoid my gravy and pot roast if he wanted to live. I once botched a potroast so badly that the second he came through the open door around the fire dept’s exhaust fan, I just smiled and said. “Pizza?” Yeah, it was that bad. Then one of those wonderful Grey-Mom’s at church introduced me to the crockpot. Now, Hubby requests pot roast. I do make a decent curry gravy and sausage gravy… decent as in it’s edible. Took decades to grasp that art. What Mom didn’t realize is that I actually love cooking… baking especially. Just when I was younger (before marriage) I never had the ingredients to make good things. Hard to make good gravy without flour or cornstarch in example. Couldn’t make cakes without eggs, etc. Now, I’m blessed to have a whole bin of spices, a bucket of flour, eggs aplenty.

        1. I sooooo want some fresh bread! Not allowed even a half slice anymore because it spikes my sugar. About all I’ve found I can safely eat is lettuce, baby carrots, and pepperoni. Oh, and an occasional egg (but I’m not supposed to eat those, either.) It’s downright depressing.

  2. I wholeheartedly agree with you, yes! “Personal branding matters in every sphere, even the seemingly humdrum routines.”
