Epiphany

She was a strict disciplinarian,  and her hawkish stance on policy matters was well-known. These are disputably good qualities for a leader of the high calibre and have carried her to the peak she occupies today.

However,  the people she resided with lived in deep discomfort – compelled to become aware of their fears, foibles and inadequacies, breathing under her large looming shadow but never free.

Today,  as the doctor  examined her after a sudden convulsion  she got,  her youngest child whispered,

“I  pray to God that she may lie forever with unopened eyes.”

The people around looked at her startled, but the doctor was amused to see some folded hands in the room.

“Amen”

Her unopened eyes saw the expressions.

Am I doing everything right in every circle?  If I return to the melee, let me transform,  at least for the ones I love.

  1. I understand the mother has her issues, but for her child to verbalize that with her in the room is horrible. There has to be a better way to effect change than wish someone dead. Well-written story, Reena.
