Let Dinosaurs Lie

The beauty of craft is that you can put together stray items to look like an integrated whole.

Have you ever wondered how thoughts and objects are linked in our minds? We value an object for the memory it evokes. If you believe in decluttering the house, you need to delink the two and discard objects that have no use in the present context.

Objectivity is a much-hyped concept that is very difficult to implement.

You march towards it after reading a few books or attending a few sessions, and a dinosaur springs its head.

“All did not go well when we did this the last time.”

“But that was last time. Why are you projecting that fear into the future?”

“Don’t the financial advisors show you the past performance of a mutual fund or stock and predict returns based on it?”

“That is a flawed technique. Smart investors know how to decode the present scenario for the company and make estimates about the future.”

“How would you apply this to other situations? Is it wrong to learn from the past?”

“No. But I read about how dinosaurs outlived their utility, the mistakes they made and what killed them. If they reappear in our world, we must construct different structures. They will be uncomfortable in the modern world.

Let the departed rest peacefully in their graves. This is the only way to eventually reach our graves in peace and not let the future trouble us.”

“Are we doing justice to moments and memories?”

“Yes, because they live only in your head. You exploit them to rationalize your theories or mindsets. You invoke them to find peace within yourself. Whatever is  true lies only inside you – both good and bad.”
