The shoes were once shiny and new – now dusty and forgotten, buried in baskets, discarded by time.
He is unable to throw them away, because of their uncanny resemblance with his life.
Some day when he is gone, and his memories discarded in the bin, the shoes will meet the same fate.
Till then, they remind him of several miles walked, trodden paths leading to where he is today, shoe-bites that made the journey difficult and remedies to facilitate movement.
Good and bad, smooth and rough, friends and foes, responses, reactions define life -all looking equally weary towards the end.

That was a lovely story for the prompt Reena! Enjoyed reading it!

Shoe-bites teach you to have a back up 🙂 Keep another pair in the car.

I like ‘shoe-bites’. What a fascinating way to describe the moments in our lives. Old shoes are really fascinating. Think about how exciting it is when archaeologists dig up old sandals in Egypt or other places. It feels as though we’re getting a glimpse into the real lives of the ancient people who wore them. Good story.

Great write – though if I’d kept all the shoes I’ve worn out there’s be no room in my house!

Excellent, Reena.
I once wrote a poem to a pair of shoes I had to discard after many years of faithful service. 🙂

Thank you so much, Linda!
I watch the transition from spiky heels to comfortable platforms and know that age is catching up with me. The Covid lockdown actually made me feel sorry for my shoes and bags collection.
