Powerful Observations

He has been in the asylum for more than a decade; yet looks more serene and sane than anyone in the outside world. He was once declared fit to be discharged, but another hysterical act put him back with other inmates.

Power was an aspiration as long as it belonged to someone else, but when placed in my frail hands, it became a source of conflict – for to exercise it, I had to kowtow to the wishes of powers I’d not known before.

I wanted to chuck it all off, but invisible shackles held me back, right in the lap of monsters for whom I was only a tool for implementation of their will.

They let me go, only when they realized that I’ve lost my capability to respond in the same archaic way, like everybody else does, and is expected to do to be able to breathe.

β€œI’ve heard the monologue, Doc, and advise you to hold the former Senator in, for he is free-er here than he can be in any palace, playground, parliament or picnic”, said the Chief Medical Officer, as he stepped into the car after the annual audit of hospital procedures, β€œMay Sanity Prevail!”

  1. Surely a lesson in power, that the individual always holds it. It is only by acceding to demands of the other is power manifested. (Even in organizations, one must choose to allow power to exert itself before it becomes ‘real’. It may not be the individual person, but if we choose to accept the organization as a whole, the people are but extensions)

  2. Isn’t that the culture shock of most people who enter politics? They’re just tools for the powerful? It takes a thick skin, to stay in that game if you’re unwilling to play dirty.
