Turn off all the lights. Do not document barbarism, or give it a place in history.
Destroy all records of past enmity induced by colonialist rulers who walked away after leaving nations to consume themselves.
Let future generations not know what happened before. Silence the souls that cry for revenge. Invite them to participate in the peace that follows.
Let this remain a buried civilization, never to be discovered. Let a new world grow on top of the ruins in spring – a world which knows not what and who parted ways before.
It could have been sanity and mindless violence.

Makes me wonder how often this has happened. Is there even such a thing as truth?

Truth is what actually happened. Whatever is reported or heard later are perspectives.

You’ve pondered some big questions here. Why don’t we learn from history? Would it be better to wipe it all and start afresh? Very thought-provoking story.

This is heavy, Reena.
A very fitting and timely piece.

I’m with the learn from history crowd. As for improving the genetic code, that may work. Education is key, but can you teach a barbarian empathy? Maybe not.
Good story, you have certainly sparked your readers to consider.

Obliterating the past means they can’t learn from its mistakes. Not sure that’s wise.

The reason it keeps happening is because we keep failing to ask why it’s happening

The voices of sanity that ask are suppressed. Thank you, Neil!

How true. We don’t seem to learn from the past.

We carry forward the negatives by harking on past enmity. Thank you, Athling!

Maybe these beings have come to do a mindwipe and do over of the planet. They must also encode a genetic governor to correct the original design flaw, or no amount of hope will keep history from repeating itself until our species extinction.

Fully agree about genetic re-engineering. It’s badly needed to wipe out crime and barbarism.

Gotta agree. Can’t really learn from a history that’s been obliterated: a textbook with missing pages.
I’m all about laying down grudges to move toward peace, but I don’t think we need to break out the black markers and paper shredders.

Hmm. Starting fresh, with no knowledge or understanding of what went before? Well, we certainly don’t seem to learn from history do we?
