Missing You

I stop in my tracks with squeaky sounds from Angel’s bedroom. But I remember having locked the door properly.

I switch on the lights to see a few toys displaced. A toy car comes rolling towards me as if the driver has lost control. Teddy’s face looks crestfallen, and all other soft toys look deflated.

I pat Teddy on the back, and type a message to Angel. I hope she has sneaked the phone under her blanket in the hostel.

“Darling, it’s not only you who is homesick. Your buddies are missing you too.”

Teddy absorbs my tears in silence.

  1. So sweet, Reena. Our daughter has recently finished school and plans to move out next year. I have no idea how we’re all going to handle that. Part of me is looking forward to being liberated but we’ll certainly miss her.
    Best wishes,
    Rowena
