Independence Day falls on a Tuesday, and workplaces are inundated with leave applications for Monday. There’s no better way to celebrate freedom than get away from the office, and daily routines for four days.
Transport and hospitality businesses gear up to meet the challenge. They’ll celebrate later after the moolah comes in.
Radio stations mention a possible terrorist attack, but they do so every year. Later, somebody will take credit for averting an attack that could have killed millions.
The sound of a gunshot pierces through the air, almost halting the traffic holding its breath. Sky, a tense diaphragm, as Aman would describe it, gives way to a downpour. Four cars ahead, Aman sees a bird fall off the tree, and a maverick picknicker flailing his arms in a convertible.
Within minutes, the mob pulls him down.
Aman wonders what tomorrow’s news will say.

Alas when the tension has build up in the mob it takes very little to set it aflame.

So true, and there are many who take advantage of it.

I like the alliterative title, Reena, and the progression from the anticipation of a celebration to the possibility of a terrorist attack, and then the gunshot.
