Voyeurism

What is it that makes us such a voyeur – peeping through a window, opening a sealed envelope addressed to someone else, checking another’s phone, reading a biography, clicking pictures surreptitiously? What makes us feel so empty inside that we need to fill up the space with bits and bytes from other lives?

A celebrity could easily say this, but the lines are from my uncle’s diary who spent the last three years of his life in isolation, not to mention that he led a very ordinary and non-descript life, and taken enough care to not leave any clues behind about his motivation.

I check my phone out of boredom, after scanning the room a couple of times, and find a voice message from him – Desire stems from watching others. Spend time with yourself to know how you would like to design your life.

But he died three days ago, and the time on the message is a few minutes ago.
