Dessert

Your prompt is in a sweet spot this week.

I cannot do without desserts, and desserts means chocolate or anything that includes chocolate.

Well, calories remain a problem, so the options are

  • Dark chocolate
  • Dates
  • Prunes
  • Raisins
  • Dried figs
  • Jaggery
  • Fruit combined with any of the above or drizzled with honey.

I’ve tried using sugar substitutes, but somehow, it’s not the same thing. Foods with natural sugar work better. Fortunately, my husband and I are both free of diabetes.

At least once in a week, we treat ourselves to a chocolate ice cream. Chocolate or plum cake is rare, but is on the table once or twice in a month.

Indian desserts are heavy with calories, and I find satisfaction only with chocolate, so I skip those, except for festive occasions. Mango-based desserts and Gulab Jamun (fried balls of thickened milk and cottage cheese soaked in sugar syrup) are the favorites in this section.

  1. They all sound delicious. I love sweet puddings, especially treacle pudding and custard. My Slimming World favourite is frozen raspberries, honey, fat free plain yoghurt, with meringue, and melted dark chocolate.
