Beauty

“Beauty is a flavour or fragrance that keeps everyone around fresh.”

“Don’t delude yourself, for Beauty is nothing but the beginning of terror. What happens when the same person acts arrogant or misbehaves? Do we give them the licence to do so?”

“Beauty is incomplete, if it does not transcend from the physical to spiritual, emotional or mental faculties.”

“Do we have tools to assess that?”

“Beauty is not assessed in the same manner across the world. Parameters differ.”

Two decades have passed since I overheard this conversation, and the mirror always feels … well, inadequate.

But why should I bother so much? Let’s leave it to the people who need to assess me.

That conversation – deeply entrenched in my psyche, will not change the fact that I am the queen of celluloid. Camera lenses, lights and make-up have helped me, not the soul.

  1. The illusion of beauty is timeless marketing bait. When the world around us crumbles into apocalypse, more and more we escape to its ultimately empty fantasy. It’s a symptom of a very sick society, imo. Thank you for your thoughtful take on it, Reena.
