Homecoming

Do you recall the first time they said you are bad
you were just being yourself, with no benchmarks set
You did not know what was good, hence, it was so sad
painful awareness of expectations unmet

those voices got together to sound like thunder
those blaming fingers merged into fistfuls of hate
clouds of fear gathered, with resentment deep under
there was a huge battle to fight; it felt like fate

a miracle happened, with appreciation
why did it take so long to know what’s inside you
it was self-acceptance, no undue elation
you saw hollows in the clouds, turning green and blue

colors manifested, words screamed; it bloomed inside
you walked ahead with a confident gait; so what
if you were alone – it still felt like a joy ride
self-accusations withdrawn; self-doubt turned to nought

maybe they come; be welcome but needed no more
they just cease to matter, their harsh words not a sore
