Fear

fear is when mortals
overwhelmed by infinity
draw lines in the sky
to design a box
just big enough
to hold their competencies.

fear is when someone
blames others for
getting too big for their boots
terrified of their own smallness.

fear is when you restrict
loved ones to ensure
they don’t ever see
anyone better than you.

fear is butterflies
fluttering in stomachs
not knowing gardens
complement their colours.

fear is absence of alternatives
even when I’m sure
I’m done with this box
and need to break walls.

fear confronts life
I believe
death is the end
of existence.

  2. This prompt grabbed your imagination and tickled your creativity, Reena! You have captured fear in this third poem. I especially like:
    ‘fear is when someone
    blames others for
getting too big for their boots
    terrified of their own smallness’.
