Freedom is when I work non-stop,
but get to choose
the kind of assignments I like
the kind of work that excites me
inspires me to keep learning,
delivering to perfection
and not having to worry about
budgets or check book balancing
Freedom is when people
with decades behind,
tonnes of experience
on their back and mind
live light ….
by rediscovering, reinventing
life in moments to savour
creating memories for a future
that may or may not happen
Freedom is where distrust is
an unknown commodity
because people see
the best in others
and themselves
dispense with lines of control
life under microscopes.
where another’s brilliance
is a mirror to my own
Freedom is expression
of authenticity
not having to shapeshift
to fit into incarceration
be in spaces created by others
for themselves to suit their needs
with no regard for individuality
Freedom is to wake up in the morning
know exactly what to create today
love, art, food, words or brilliance
with un-bended shoulders
head and heart free of ache
and know tomorrow will be
as beautiful as today

Reena – this is so lovely… would you mind if I share it as a ‘reblog’ at some point? No pressure, of course!

Yes, “freedom is expression of authenticity without having to shapeshift”. Your poem is a wonderful treatise on the qualities of freedom, Reena!

Loved this poem, Reena. Freedom is a positive attitude. Freedom at my age –
‘Freedom is to wake up in the morning
know exactly what to create today
love, art, food, words or brilliance
with un-bended shoulders
head and heart free of ache
and know tomorrow will be
as beautiful as today.’

I love the freestyle and the layout, Reena, which enhance the meaning of your poem so well, and I agree with everything you write. I like the thought of living light – I think I’ve been doing that since I retired –
‘by rediscovering, reinventing
life in moments to savour
creating memories for a future
that may or may not happen’.
My favourite stanza is the final one, it’s what I aim for.

A great poem Reena. I found your poem on freedom to be somewhere between self-employed to utopia to retired!! :>)

That’s a good one 😀😀 Employment can never give freedom.
