Back and Forth

“I forgive you, Mom, now I know why you laid down so many rules”, Maria wailed to the chagrin of others.

“I guess we should focus on navigation”, the Captain’s tone is sombre.

“Yes, but now you know the consequences of straying too far,” Maria is insistent.

“We are close to discovering a new island, and shortly, our names will pop up in the news. And Maria, you will have enough time to pass on inherited wisdom to your grandchildren.”

“There we are Captain”, Adrian squeals, “see the green flag there …. we are about to discover a new civilization.”

  1. Teaching rules and caution can backfire for sure when it comes to adventure. Maybe that’s why teams can take dreams farther than those going solo? Happy they found a new (to them) civilization and use respect and care when interacting with it.

  2. Good luck with that ( “…we are about to discover a new civilization.”)
    lol

Not to be cynical, but the history of ‘discovering new civilizations’ is not a tale of enlightenment as much as it is a story of conquest (culturally, if not militarily).

The weapon of choice of most conquerors? Mirror-shaped clubs to better the new discovery into recognizable shape.)
