a duality of view 
divides her into 
what she should be
what she should not be

people wag their tongues 
while she paints her skin
multicoloured; incandescent
her art will be bolder 
than what she’s allowed to be

can’t you see? 
she is the quiet defiance 
a statement through her piece 
I will be what I want to be
