Blood Moon

let’s take a walk on the beach
give the ocean a chance
to touch our bare feet
Later, we’ll spend some time
on the rocks
to hear crashing waves
tell their secrets
some of which
we’ve already imbibed
as they seeped in
through our tired skin

watch the Blood Moon
walk across the sky
bleeding stories from other worlds
happy to get rid of names
human imagination
gives a rocky place
bereft of blood or tears
to transfer its fears
awe or wistfulness
to constructed tales
of unseen places
unspilled blood
unshed tears

I walk light
into the deep night
leaving angst behind
for nature
that does not
speak the same language
keeps my secrets safe
and I project myself
as pure, innocent
bereft of guilt

The Moon is still red
Ocean is still turbulent
I wipe away saltiness
from my cheeks
not knowing
who sheds tears
for whom….

  1. There’s nothing as romantic as a walk on the beach, Reena, especially in the light of a blood moon. I love the idea of imbibing the secrets of crashing waves and the moon ‘bleeding stories from other worlds’. The list of three: unseen, unspilled and unshed is very effective.
