Growing Within

“I feel let down,” sighs Karan, “sometimes the things you trust are not there when you need them most.”

Idly, he fingers the books on the expensive shelf he bought on his last trip to Italy, and an intricately designed miniature painting falls from somewhere in between.

The face of the artist and her voice flashes in memory, “How often do you revisit a value system or cherished memory or wisdom on a page, which you’ve carefully bookmarked for future reference? The idea or the relationship is not nurtured, it does not grow within you, but you expect it to be there for you whenever you stop by the shelf.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t find me here later … I’ll have moved on to a place where I’m valued.”

  1. The idea or the relationship is not nurtured, it does not grow within you,

That, imo, is why so many self-improvement plans (from weight loss to higher education) fail. Doing the steps, following the instructions alone is not enough, it must become a part of the person.
It isn’t sufficient to dream of the improved self, the process itself must become part of us. How we live is what changes our life. The power must come from within.
    Thought-provoking Six, as always.
