The refrain is familiar. It’s the same fear psychosis that gripped his father. His father ended up with an obsessive compulsive disorder of locking things.
He fears his wife’s online interactions with an imagined enemy. Seeing the purported enemy online gives him jitters, and he yells and screams to restrain his wife’s online activity. Her work suffers.
He stays up to stalk numbers, makes himself sick and wakes up to more darkness.

Fear can be a good thing keeping us safe and unharmed, and some fears are irrational and dangerous. Your story is s good example of the need to be aware of the reality of what we fear and how we react to it.
