Poetic justice

cultures that reward
loyalty, devotion
propagate it
as the only value
to justify breathing
-facilitate
coronations

systems that impose
carefully constructed dogmas
on another’s
free-flowing existence
bottle the genie
In throne pillars
-ask for validation,
unquestioning acceptance
-Induce guilt for
asking questions
-drive the weak to
uncalled for
penitence

then the penny drops
tearing through silence
assumes gargantuan,
grotesque proportions
threatens to expose
dark manipulations

they know not
whom to worship
gods have fallen
deconstructed temples
stand exposed
shaken by revelations

devotees blindfold
to pray peacefully
yet, hear dissonance
-feel jagged edges
of broken idols pierce
a battered conscience
