You’re being watched

“Get me all reports on the espionage case.”

I notice a change. There is caution in his usually stern, authoritative voice.

“All fine, Sir?”

“Get used to changes.” He points at the camera installed in his plush office, concealing the gesture.

“Yes, Sir! You’ll have it in an hour.”

I walk out with a new learning. At any level in the hierarchy, there’s someone above you.

You are always being watched.

  1. 100% correct. At my old job with the government there was a multi-leveled system of watching. Nothing escaped the cameras, microphones, key loggers, login logs, surfing history monitoring, nosy co-workers, secretly placed tracking devices in vehicles, and probably many more we weren’t aware of. Big Brother is alive and growing bigger and more invasive all of the time.

      1. Oh I know! What bosses love to do is get some real dirt on employees and then promote them into mid-management. They then develop their grapevine of spies to do their will. I don’t miss any of that and I feel sorry for anyone still enmeshed in such messes.

  2. If you ever used a credit card, you are ‘watched’, and if you shopped in a department store, you are ‘watched’, and when you walk/drive outside in many cities, you are ‘watched.’ Then again, when people lived in small villages filled with nosy neighbors and an inquisitorial church … they were very very VERY watched. So not much is new, really … Just the modality and scope.
