Not needed now

This is a topic I can’t have fun with.

The women in my father’s family (his mother, sister and nieces) were beautiful. They looked like marble statues with their alabaster skin and chiselled features.

My grandmother would often say with great sarcasm to me, “You look like your mother….have not taken after this family.” It was perhaps her way of showing the daughter-in-law (my Mom) down, but at that raw age, it did hurt.

Years later, when those beautiful cousins compliment me on multiple things I do, it comes close to vindication. I often think if it took such a long journey to just gain acceptability – at a time, when it doesn’t matter any more.
