past impressions
help me read
between the lines
behind amiable expressions
gauge devious thoughts
in the suave speaker’s mind
I often wonder if I would be
smart or foolish
to believe once again
just for my own gain
dump the fraudster
once I’m done
I don’t know
if he has changed
in the interim phase
for better
or worse
will he get fooled
by silvery words?
Will tides turn
In my favour?
I’ll be glad to watch
his discomfiture
then, I turn unwelcome thoughts away
and get on with my life…..

salt
the wound
the scar
of the hostile
hasty words
do not impress
and are
under foot
deservedly
trampled~
