Ted is more a philosopher than a photographer, and inclined to move beyond technicalities. It’s not easy teaching him.

“We don’t have answers to everything. Like why is the frog shedding a tear tonight?”
“Its creator made it do so. So can I decide what to focus on.”
An idea had taken shape.

I see it simply as a self-realization on how to decide on focus. Before that, he was looking at his mentor for answers.
