Forsaking the unknown

Did she really want worship
while living a suppressed life?

wistfully
she saw girls jumping around
rising up to meet the sky
scaling up dreams on the way

How she’d have loved to be
commonplace, ordinary
with no expectations
or conduct restrictions

Alas! A life not meant to be
the princess lies buried here
for having aspirations
appropriate to a commoner

not a blue-blooded dame
not prisoners in a palace
she is worshipped and eulogised
for sacrifices she made

forsaking pleasures
she did not know existed…
but would have loved to know..

  1. Beautiful all the way through–I, too, loved the phrase “scaling up dreams”…maybe that’s what I’m doing, since they seem to leave me short of breath 🙂
