Rules of darkness

light in a window
blinds me to
unknown, unseen faces
unheard voices
trapped in the castle
awaiting release
 
their desperation
to surpass, to suppress
the sole visible figure
grows
as the New Moon
swells in size
 
the next New Moon
sees a new face
in the same window
claiming spotlight
and many others
struggling
to reclaim it
 
remnants of struggle
splashed across the sky
in shades of red
tell stories
of volcanic rage
strategic ambition
toppled ethics
 
darkness has its own rules
light cannot surpass….
