He yapped incessantly about the new house he bought, expensive gifts he surprised his wife with, and the freshly engineered net-worth statement he submitted to the bank for a business loan. I did not look impressed. Actually, I tried my best to, but my disapproval of his inefficiency, his corrupt and womanizing ways showed through.

I cannot help being like this. Individuals at the core, and their value system always matter more to me, than what they own.

I’ve paid a price for being like this. The person mentioned was my boss, and I was more transparent than I realized.

The animosity turned mutual.
