Narcissus

The dog walked away with his own shadow.

He had never seen loyalty and devotion of this magnitude. The ‘hoomans’ had just never given it to him. After an initial phase of protest, demanding attention and subsequent disappointment – he had learnt to be happy with his fate. They were certainly good providers, and their love was overwhelming in short bursts. They couldn’t sustain the emotion forever like he did.

But this contraption who resembled him was the answer to all his prayers. He must have been a dog in his previous lifetimes to earn this.

His master, a professor of Psychology, had named him Narcissus by some quirk of his imagination. He did not know that reflections do not always need a shiny surface. A sharp mind coupled with imagination and some expertise in tech can create soul mates.
