Believe me –
I don’t want to spike controversies
I’m just being myself
living to my heart’s content.
There may be no tomorrow
for all I know
my free spirit
hits the walls of
your cloistered existence
wanting to break free.
Believe me…….. will you?

One has to open a window for those free spirits.

Sometimes being ones self can create pain for others! Well done!

It needs a rider perhaps- to be oneself in a positive way. Attaching riders like not being offensive to others will give others the power to manipulate. Who decides what is offensive?

That is true. Some folks are very outspoken and mean no harm by it. I have known a few like that!

The trouble is we often have to break free more than once! Keep pushing through 🖤

You are so right about that. I often wonder how controlling instincts make others forget all previous episodes of conflict. They do try again.

It is not easy to overcome … that penchant for allowing others to define us.

And the penchant of others to try controlling us.

That’s a powerful image, Reena, a free spirit hitting the walls of a cloistered existence’. No one should have to ask to be believed.

It is unfortunate that one has to convince others of their right to freedom.

Loved this piece; well said. One advantage for many of us is the fellowship, love and support we get at dVerse. I belong to an international minimalist photography group that gives me similar props and accolades. Remember a free spirit threatens the static isolationists among us–but just soar and avoid their darts.

‘Static isolationists’ is a good term to describe them. Thanks, Glenn!

I agree with Bjorn. I have never understood the confining of a soul. Nice poem!

Thanks! Confining the soul can only be an effort. Nobody succeeds.
